At The African Touch we build with timber harvested from natural forests or reclaimed sources. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are the same in either colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. Reclaimed timbers will also have bolt holes, old cuts and character stresses that may be over 100 years old. Please, therefore, do not expect us to produce identical pieces with perfectly boring blemish free timber – that’s for the mass producers who use artificial veneers and stains.
Solid wood naturally oxidises and darkens with age. Zambezi teak in particular will change from a beautiful light honey brown to a darker rich red brown colour on exposure to light. This is a natural process so the product you receive will certainly change colour with time and may not look exactly the same as products in brochures or on our web sites.
Solid wood moves as the environmental humidity changes. The African Touch products are designed to allow for this natural movement, so you may see a slightly different wood colour where a portion that was previously covered becomes exposed don’t worry, with time it will all blend to a similar colour.
At The African Touch we reserve the right to alter or discontinue designs. Sometimes we get bored with something, and sometimes we are simply not happy with the design, or not enough people go for it!
Some African Touch pieces are very heavy and great care must be taken in handling these pieces. Seriously, The African Touch will not be responsible for injury or death while our products are being handled or moved.
Because the timber is so dense, it can be quite brittle and chip or crack. The African Touch deny responsibility for damage from silly handling.
We are very happy to give a 15 year warranty (after that the guys who made it may not be around!) against construction flaws for all products except chairs (we are amazed at how some fools rock on chairs – no chair can withstand that!), stools, folding tables, furniture used for commercial purposes, and custom designed products that we have not been able to test sufficiently. If you are concerned about the size and weight of those going to use the product please let us know and we will assist in re-designing the product or suggesting an alternative option. As a guide, please don’t exceed 100kg (220lbs) for chairs of 120kg (260lbs) for beds.
Naturally, any miss handling or inappropriate use of the product will invalidate the warranty. The warranty does not apply to components supplied by The African Touch that are fitted into or on components from another supplier, the client or to a building.
We will supply you with our suggested care and maintenance guidelines to ensure life-long enjoyment of your furniture. However we cannot be held responsible for repairing / replacing this product if you don’t listen to our advice about using and looking after your African Touch product.
With custom designed (bespoke) products we will produce working drawings to reflect your requirements as accurately as we can interpret them. Please study these carefully and ask if there is anything you do not understand or wish to change. Once we are in agreement we will ask you to sign the drawings before production begins. After this point we cannot change the drawings and The African Touch will not replace custom designed and made products unless there is a construction flaw for which we are responsible.
Prices quoted include delivery to the nearest African Touch outlet. Onward delivery can be arranged with an independent service provider at the client’s cost. The client is responsible for payment to the service provider, and The African Touch will not be responsible for any damage once the service provider has taken delivery of the product.
The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.
