Canvas Wash Stand

R2,000.00

The Canvas Campaign Wash stand is a traditional design used on African Safaris for a brisk wash after awakening from a restful night’s sleep under canvas. However, it also makes an excellent cooler for a bottle of wine or bubbly!

The standard finish for a Canvas Wash Stand is oil, suitable for use indoor or out of doors.

The scissor legs slot into the cups of the canvas bag and as more weight in the form of water or wine is added so the stability of the stand improves. The crossed brace support on the legs makes them very stable.

The Canvas Campaign Wash stand is a traditional design used on African Safaris for a brisk wash after awakening from a restful night’s sleep under canvas. However, it also makes an excellent cooler for a bottle of wine or bubbly!

The scissor legs slot into the cups of the canvas bag and as more weight in the form of water or wine is added so the stability of the stand improves. The crossed brace support on the legs makes them very stable and brings good strength to the whole structure. Richard & Sue Lowe go on many camping expeditions in the African bush, and for years we have taken our canvas wash stand with us – we wouldn’t go without it! The legs fold very neatly and flat for easy storage in the vehicle.

The canvas bag is made from genuine old fashioned cotton canvas, also known as cotton duck, as this swells when in contact with water and seals the bag. In addition the moisture evaporates off the cotton canvas and this has a cooling effect, assisting when used as a canvas wine cooler.

The canvas wash stand is also known as the Canvas Wine Cooler. As such it goes very well with the Hemingway Field Bar and the Mini Field Bar.

Your oiled Canvas Wash Stand or Wind Cooler receives two applications of The African Touch Furniture Oil prior to delivery. Our outlets carry stock, should you require it. We recommend you re-apply when the finish looks faded or dry. The recommended application procedure is as follows:

  • Wipe surface down with a clean cotton cloth lightly moistened with mineral turpentine. (Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry and clean before proceeding with the next step)
  • Use a clean cotton cloth or soft bristled brush dipped in the oil and apply in light, short strokes, ensuring thorough and even distribution of the oil.
  • Leave the oil on the furniture for at least 1 to 2 hours (but not more than 24 hours), to allow absorption into the wood.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours.

If a wet glass or similar is left on the surface it may leave a watermark. In this case please wipe the water off as soon as possible, and if necessary apply some more Satinwood 28 base. If the mark is still slightly visible you can rub with a little baking soda mixed with an equal part of water, wipe off with a damp cloth and re-apply the oil.
