The Roorkhee chair (sometimes called the Roorkee chair) was originally designed as a British Army campaign chair. In 1933 Kaare Klint, considered by many to be the father of modern Danish design, re-invented the Roorkhee and called it the Safari Chair. It became an iconic example of campaign furniture and will add a real touch of class to your home. The Roorkhee is also ideal for camp or lodge environments as the joints are mobile and allow the chair to adjust to uneven ground.

The Roorkhee is designed to be easy to assemble and disassemble, no tools required. The tapered backrest is designed to fit your back exactly and the seat is extra wide for added comfort.

The chairs come in beautiful and durable African mahogany and Zambezi teak with custom made details in solid brass. The oil finish is ideal for an outdoor environment and brings out the colour and grain of the African hardwood. Covers available are double padded auto canvas in sand or grey with leather trim or beautifully decadent pure veg tanned safari leather.

The chair components are hand turned from 50mm (2”0) square select hardwood sections. The artisan’s skill is such that he turns the legs and rails to exact detail by eye. The male tenon on the rails fit exactly into the female mortice on the legs with sufficient play to allow the easy assembly of the chair and for the chair to adjust to uneven ground.

We cannot offer a warrantee on chairs except for defects in material and workmanship that affect the integrity of the chair under normal use and weight limits. The reason for this is that chairs can be subject to huge stresses (such as when a heavy person rocks back on the back legs) that are impossible to compensate for in the construction of the chair without compromising on the design appeal.

We build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.
