Safari Field Bar

From: R9,450.00

The Safari Field Bar is a rugged version of our Field Bar family. Built primarily for use in Safari vehicles, it has a total of 16 compartments. A tough canvas cover to protect your field bar on bumpy roads is an optional extra. The cover has heavy duty zips to quickly open up when you feel a thirst coming on! Please Contact Us if you would like a quote with the cover.

Please note the canvas covers do not fit tightly on the timber box by design, so handle apertures and zip lines may not line up exactly.

The Safari Field Bar comes as standard with an oil finish, ideal for outdoor use. For more information on this fine piece, please see Product Details below.

The Design

The Safari Field Bar varies slightly from our other Field Bars in having safari harness leather handles and corner blocks rather than solid brass. The leather handles are comfortable to carry the drinks cabinet in and out of vehicles, while being very secure. Solid brass snap hinges and stays complete the fittings.

Bespoke safari drinks cabinets can be designed to suit your specific requirements. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss options.

Construction

All African Touch Field bars are expertly handmade using the finest joinery techniques. The box is built with through dovetail joints, the safest and best way to construct a solid wood box.

Material

Zambezi Teak gives a tough Safari Field Bar that shows off the wonderful colour and grain of our finest hardwood. Mahogany is a traditional variation available. We supply in an oil finish as it is ideal for use out of doors. Please see our article on finishes and how to look after them for more information.

Uses

The Safari Field Bar is ideal as a picnic bar for the family or in a game drive vehicle. Richard Lowe uses his on Safari all through Southern Africa, and it has visited the Kgalagadi, Kalahari, Namib, Hwange National Park, Gonarezhou and may other fine safari destinations!

Your oiled Safari Field Bar receives two applications of The African Touch Furniture Oil prior to delivery. Our outlets carry stock, should you require it. We recommend you re-apply when the finish looks faded or dry. The recommended application procedure is as follows:

  • Wipe surface down with a clean cotton cloth lightly moistened with mineral turpentine. (Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry and clean before proceeding with the next step)
  • Use a clean cotton cloth or soft bristled brush dipped in the oil and apply in light, short strokes, ensuring thorough and even distribution of the oil.
  • Leave the oil on the furniture for at least 1 to 2 hours (but not more than 24 hours), to allow absorption into the wood.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours.

If a wet glass or similar is left on the surface it may leave a watermark. In this case please wipe the water off as soon as possible, and if necessary apply some more Satinwood 28 base. If the mark is still slightly visible you can rub with a little baking soda mixed with an equal part of water, wipe off with a damp cloth and re-apply the oil.

Due to the stresses and strains that a Field Bar can be subject to, we cannot offer a lifetime guarantee on this product. However, we do offer a one year warranty against defects in construction or material.

Please note that the timber used to hand make an African Touch Field Bar is a natural hardwood that varied in colour and grain, so no two parts of a field bar will look the same nor will two field bars. Natural knots and growth cracks may be present, but these will not affect the integrity of the piece, but rather add to its charm and appearance.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 5 or more Safari Field Bars and to Professional designers and decorators. Please contact us to arrange your discount.
