The design

There is often a need for a decent solid teak outdoor table. Those on the market tend to be made from inferior timber of flimsy design.  We designed The Zambezi Outdoor Table to be the toughest, most durable, and we believe best designed solid teak outdoor table on the market.

The thick Rhodesian teak timbers give it a gravitas and opulence unmatched by other patio tables, which have much thinner timber sections. Our design allows for the table to be simply dismantled for ease of transport and storage. The slatted top, with 5mm gaps between each piece, lets rain & snow drain easily through the top. It is very well constructed with the top held in position by over-engineered brackets that allow for the movement of solid wood with changes of humidity. The offset scissor truss of this solid teak outdoor table which fit into the Z column legs are a unique feature designed by Richard Lowe.

The Material and finish

Constructed out of solid Zambezi Teak timbers, possibly the finest timber available for this application. It is extremely hard and dense, and therefore impervious to adverse weather. We finish our patio and outdoor furniture with an oil finish that gives the Zambezi teak the rich colour and grain you see in these images. The oil also protects the product from fungal or insect attack. We carry stock of this oil should you require it.

Where to use this solid teak outdoor table.

The durability and design of this table make it ideal for outdoor, patio or indoor applications. It is excellent as a dining table or office table. It is used by upmarket Safari lodges and camps, as well as hotels. It is ideal for use as a garden table paired with our beautiful Safari Director’s Chairs and Zambezi Outdoor benches.

Maintaining Zambezi Outdoor Tables

Maintaining Zambezi Outdoor Tables

Your oiled African Touch Zambezi Outdoor Table receives three applications of Satinwood 28 Base oil prior to delivery. Our outlets carry stock, or you can find it in most hardware shops in South Africa. We recommend you do one application on installation of the furniture. From time to time you will need to re-apply the oil. If the furniture is used outdoors, please do the re-application every 3 months. When in doubt, re-apply when the finish looks faded or dry. The recommended application procedure is as follows:

  • Wipe surface down with a clean cotton cloth lightly moistened with mineral turpentine. (Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry and clean before proceeding with the next step)
  • Use a clean cotton cloth or soft bristled brush dipped in the oil and apply in light, short strokes, ensuring thorough and even distribution of the oil.
  • Leave the oil on the furniture for at least 1 to 2 hours (but not more than 24 hours), to allow absorption into the wood.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours.

If the surface of your furniture becomes a bit grimy over time it can be very effectively cleaned with Deckwash from Timberlife. Apply with a clean cloth.  Work in well over the total surface and wipe off all excess liquid.

If a wet glass or similar is left on the surface it may leave a watermark. In this case please wipe the water off as soon as possible, and if necessary apply some more Satinwood 28 Base. If the mark is still slightly visible you can rub with a little baking soda mixed with an equal part of water, wipe off with a damp cloth and re-apply the oil.

Guarantee

Guarantee

At The African Touch we build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness.

Solid wood naturally oxidises and darkens with age. Zambezi teak in particular will change from a beautiful light honey brown to a darker rich red brown on exposure to light. This is a natural process so the product you receive will certainly change colour with time and may not look exactly the same as products in brochures or on our web sites.

We give a 15 year warranty against construction flaws. Naturally, any miss handling or inappropriate use of the product will invalidate the warranty. The warranty does not apply to components supplied by The African Touch that are fitted into or on components from another supplier, the client or to a building. The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.
