Muddy Teak is a newly launched tented camp in the heart of Hwange National Park. Part of the Camp Hwange collection, this intimate, four-tent safari retreat is located on a private wildlife concession and offers an immersive, up-close experience with nature—right from the comfort of beautifully appointed, handcrafted interiors.
We were commissioned to design and manufacture all their custom furniture; from headboards, wardrobes and bathroom vanities, to bedroom accessories using a combination of sustainably sourced Eucalyptus Cloeziana and steel. The result is a refined blend of organic materials and contemporary safari aesthetics that complement the wild elegance of the camp.
This was an exciting project that came with its share of logistical challenges. Due to Muddy Teak’s remote location deep within Hwange’s teak woodlands, transporting materials and coordinating installation required meticulous planning. Most memorably, progress on-site was occasionally halted when a resident pride of lions temporarily claimed the camp as their own. Contractors and building teams often had to down tools and retreat to safety while the lions lounged comfortably nearby—a true reminder of the wild beauty of working in such a location.
Designed for exclusive use, Muddy Teak offers guests private guides and vehicles for a flexible, tailor-made safari experience. Elevated dining deck, serene waterhole views, and thoughtful design rooted in natural textures create a space where luxury and wilderness exist in perfect balance.
