At Pamarah Lodge in Victoria Falls we walked into a project that pushed our team in all the right ways. Every guest room had its own size and shape, and many of the walls curved or met at strange angles, so nothing followed a standard layout. We had to measure each space carefully, sketch new drawings for every room, and choose hardwood timbers that suited the warm safari feel of the lodge while still giving guests practical pieces they could actually use.
Since no two rooms matched, off-the-shelf furniture was never an option. We built custom beds, dressers, bedside tables, desks and lounge chairs that followed the curves and corners of each room. Some rooms had soft rounded walls. Others had sloped ceilings that needed clever storage ideas. Our joinery team shaped every piece so it felt like it belonged there, rather than something squeezed in after the fact.
We worked with hardwoods from Zimbabwe and finished everything in tones that blended naturally with the lodge’s setting. Small details mattered. Brass fittings, campaign-style touches and safari grade materials helped create furniture that looked good, handled daily use and kept the lodge’s character intact. We also worked closely with the architects and designers to make sure each piece fitted around doors, windows and tricky curved surfaces without any awkward gaps.
The end result at Pamarah Lodge is a collection of rooms that feel personal and well considered. Guests walk into spaces that are shaped uniquely for them, with furniture that fits properly instead of forcing the room to work around it. This project remains one of our favourites because of the challenge and the level of craftsmanship needed to bring each room together.
Phil and Mornette Scott-Riddell are a husband-and-wife team who run the lodge as a family affair. Their story began when they visited Victoria Falls on a camping holiday, fell in love with the place, and decided to establish their own lodge.
