The Design

The classic hardwood bed. In the Lozi language, Mosi-oa-Tunya means ‘The Smoke which Thunders’, and is the name given by the local people to the Victoria Falls. It is also the name we have chosen for the iconic four poster hardwood bed of our African Touch Collection. This bed was conceived in our Victoria Falls studio. The high headboard of the Mosi-oa-Tunya bed with the ‘falling’ lines of the beautiful Zambezi Teak boards reflect the world’s greatest sheet of falling water – Victoria Falls.

The Material and construction.

Built from arguable the finest hardwood in the world, Zambezi Teak, which grows in the magnificent forests surrounding the Falls.
This hardwood bed is designed to be knock down and disassembles for ease of transport and installation. It is very simple to re-assemble, and instructions will be provided if necessary. For hotel and lodge situations where two single beds may need to come together to form a king size bed, we will build the adjoining rails level with the base slats to allow a mattress to sit snugly across the whole frame.

Where this hardwood bed is most useful.

In Southern Africa’s safari areas we have a real problem with malaria. The Mosi-oa-Tunya hardwood bed is the prefect solution. Mosquito nets can be commissioned to fit the frame of the bed snugly. Ideal for hotels, camps, lodges and private homes in these areas.

To protect the lacquered finish of your Mosi-oa-Tunia bed please place it away from direct sunlight. Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month. Apply sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.
