How does this work?

The origin of the The Sabi Luxury Safari Director’s Chair, design can be traced back to the Ming dynasty in China during the 15th century. Initially, it was created as a collapsible chair for military officials and commanders, who required a portable seating option for their temporary camps. Later on, during the 19th century, European explorers and travellers adopted this design for their outdoor activities, like hunting and camping.

In the safari industry, the director’s chair has gained popularity because of its lightweight and foldable design, which makes it convenient to carry and set up in remote locations. Moreover, its strong construction and comfortable seating make it an ideal choice for prolonged outdoor usage. The luxury director’s chair is a symbol of luxury and elegance in the safari industry due to its association with high-end safari lodges and camps.  Safari operators and travellers prefer the director’s chair for its timeless design and appeal, which offer both comfort and style while exploring the African wilderness.

Design

Our Luxury Safari Director’s Chair is based on our Safari Director’s Chair design. We first started making the Safari Chair thirty years ago, and have improved on its design continuously since then. Solid brass fittings and the option of beautiful genuine harness leather covers, give the Deluxe chair a rare opulence and added luxurious feel. This chair goes very well with our range of Campaign Folding Tables. The Director’s Chair Drinks Tray is also a very attractive addition that allows you to clip the tray to the side of the chair. We have the drinks tray also available with solid brass fittings.

Seat Cover Options:

The Sabi Luxury Safari Director’s Chair covers are made with UV stabilized, waterproof, ripstop canvas (double-padded and quilted or single).  Standard colours are Safari Green and Sand. Another option is our Auto canvas covers in either Karoo Khaki, Sand or Grey. For other colours please enquire and we will check on availability with Cedarbrook Fabrics. The most luxurious seat cover option would most certainly be our veg-tanned harness leather.

The process of vegetable tanning, as the name implies, uses organic material and natural tannins derived from the bark and leaves of various trees. This results in colours that are rich and deep in natural, earthy tones. The fibres of the bovine hide used for the leather are visible in the finished product, lending authenticity and personality to the leather that makes it more unique. As a natural, breathable material, it gets more comfortable the longer you use it. Veg tanning produces the most durable leather available. It is used as harness leather in horse saddles and similar applications requiring tough, resilient leather. Much stiffer and thicker than other leathers, it is more difficult to work. To protect and nourish your Safari Harness Leather covers, we recommend you use Hide Food, which we carry stock. Firstly, clean the leather with a damp cloth. Hide Food should always be applied using a lint-free cloth or a sponge using an even circular motion. The cream generally dries in a couple of minutes after which it can be buffed with a polish brush or soft cloth. Hide food provides a good degree of water resistance.

Lacquer finish:

To protect your lacquered finish please on your Luxury Safari Director’s Chair, The Sabi, apply a good furniture wax or polish sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

We cannot offer a warrantee on chairs except for defects in material and workmanship that affect the integrity of the chair under normal use and weight limits. The reason for this is that chairs can be subject to huge stresses (such as when a heavy person rocks back on the back legs) that are impossible to compensate for in the construction of the chair without compromising on the design appeal.

We build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 20 or more chairs, and trade discounts to professional designers and decorators. The discount will reflect in your quote.
