The Design
The Campaign Field Bar is designed in the tradition of Campaign Furniture of the 18th and 19th century. At that time Safaris were becoming popular in Africa and the knock-down, portable nature of Campaign furniture made it ideal for Safaris. It is based on the larger Hemingway Field bar but does not come standard with the folding legs. It has an internal construction of 6 x 3 compartments for bottles and glasses. The front door folds conveniently to form a mixing table.
We offer an optional extra version of our Tray Table as a stand for the Campaign Field Bar. This has the advantage of doubling up as very useful drinks tray!
Construction
Each Field Bar is built over a week by one of our master artisans. Select timber is carefully planed and matched before being laminated into boards. The dovetail joints of the main box sides are then carefully cut together with a groove to hold the base in place. Once the box is assembled, the internal divisions are carefully fitted using half lap joints. The next process is to build the top and front door using panel in frame construction.
Next comes the fitting of solid brass snap hinges and corner blocks, requiring great skill. The position on the cabinet is marked in pencil. The artisan then uses a very sharp chisel to exactly remove timber to the shape of the fitting. It’s then off to the finishing section for sanding with ever finer sandpaper to give the perfect finish. Finally the finishing coats can be applied.
Material
The traditional material used for Campaign Furniture is mahogany, and we have African Mahogany available together with the very hard and attractive Zambezi Teak.
Uses
The Campaign Field Bar makes a delightful Whisky Cabinet to keep your favourite scotch malt whisky with fine Bohemian crystal glasses. Ideal for your office entertainment, home or in a safari lodge or Scottish Game lodge.

Dan Mulford –
Dear African Touch team,
I write to let you know that my Field Bar arrived, and it is simply beautiful. Many thanks for all your assistance. It is a piece I look forward to treasuring for many years to come. I look forward to one day visiting you all in person. Until then, I will think of that day each time I use the bar.
Best regards,
Dan Mulford
