The Wilderness Chair epitomises the inherent simplicity in great design. Two elegantly folding leaves provide perfect comfort and the ultimate in storage convenience. It can be hung on a wall or stowed in a cupboard. Ideal as an extra chair or as permanent lounge chair. The yacht sail rope seats is not only very comfortable but extremely tough and hard wearing.

Recommended weight limit 100kg (220lb). Please do not rock back and forth on any chair.

For more detail on this terrific design please see Product details below.

The Design

The Wilderness Chair provides an ideal balance of form and function. We needed a folding chair that is very comfortable and has beautifully sculpted clean lines. The design emphasizes the wonderful rich earthiness of the natural hardwood from which it is created and contrasts with the clean yacht sail rope of the seat and back. It is extraordinarily comfortable and secure to sit in.

Construction

The Wilderness Chair is assembled with large, strong mortice and tenon joints. Its’ sail rope seat and back are then strung very tightly which adds significantly to the strength of the whole chair.

The seat hangs from the back legs with solid brass hinges and rests on a hook carved into the back legs of the chair, making it very secure.

Material

Each of the beautifully curved legs of The Wilderness Chair is cut from a single extra-wide plank of tough African Hardwood. The chair is available either in Zambezi Teak, one of the hardest woods in the world, or African Mahogany.

Uses

This folding lounge chair is perfect as an extra chair or permanent fixture. It is ideally suited to the veranda of your safari lodge or home. Its light and foldable frame can easily be hung or leaned on a wall for convenient storage. The chair has all the elegance of a sculpture with its natural materials, clean sail rope webbing and evident craftsmanship. In short, it beautifully embodies the concept of complex simplicity. A similar chair to the Wilderness chair would be the Planter’s Chair, though it does not fold conveniently as this fine chair does.

To protect your lacquered finish please place your Wilderness Chair away from direct sunlight. Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month, sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

We cannot offer a warrantee on chairs except for defects in material and workmanship that affect the integrity of the chair under normal use and weight limits. The reason for this is that chairs can be subject to huge stresses (such as when a heavy person rocks back on the back legs) that are impossible to compensate for in the construction of the chair without compromising on the design appeal.

We build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 10 or more and to Professional designers and decorators. Please contact us to arrange your discount.
