The concept and design
The Hemingway Luxury Field Bar is named after Ernest Hemingway, American novelist and journalist who loved to Safari in Africa and was fond of a glass or two after a hot day’s hunting or fishing. We decided to build a drinks cabinet in honour of this great character who captured so much of the essence of Africa in his writing.
It is designed in the tradition of British Army campaign furniture to be a portable field bar, quick to set up on Safari for sundowners at day’s end or as a beautiful piece to adorn your home/lodge and impress those guests! Interior divisions provide secure storage for crystal glasses and decanters, while the fold-down front is an excellent mixing tray! Solid brass corner blocks and straps protect this fine piece from knocks and bashes. The beautifully styled legs fold together when the drinks cabinet is moved. This also facilitates transport and delivery.
The construction and material.
The cabinet of this hardwood field bar is constructed with beautiful dovetail joints. While being very attractive, they also add great strength to the whole piece. The front door and lid are built with panel-in-frame construction – ideal when using solid hardwood to prevent warping with changes in humidity. We construct this field bar from Zambezi teak which has a beautiful colour and grain, and is very hard.
Uses
The Luxury Field Bar has been used in many environments. As a whiskey display cabinet for a selection of whiskeys from a collection. In private upmarket homes, to replace a pub or as a drinks cabinet in the living area. In the best Safari lodges to serve guest’s drinks.
