Our design

We wanted a clean, elegant bedside table that could fit multiple roles. Though we call this our bedside table, it is also very useful as a lamp table or side table. The design is simple yet modern, emphasizing the beauty of the Zambezi Teak from which it is hand made. This simplicity lends itself to many décor styles, and The African Touch bedside table is often mixed in with other timbers and fabrics to give a pleasing contrast.

Construction and material

The Bedside Table is an expertly hand crafted solid wood pedestal table using traditional solid wood joinery typical of The African Touch. An example here is the expanded through round tenon joint giving an extremely strong joint of the leg to the seemingly floating table top. Bottom rails are securely fitted to legs with large mortice and tenon joints. This attention to detail and the quality of the timber used will ensure the product endures long after we are gone.

This solid wood pedestal table is constructed from Zambezi Teak, sometimes still called Rhodesian Teak, a very hard, durable timber, but as you can see, with a beautiful colour and grain. Should you want other options, please contact us to see what we have available.

Lacquer finish:

To protect your lacquered finish please place your table away from direct sunlight. Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month. Apply sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

At The African Touch we build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness.

Solid wood naturally oxidises and darkens with age. Zambezi teak in particular will change from a beautiful light honey brown to a darker rich red brown on exposure to light. This is a natural process so the product you receive will certainly change colour with time and may not look exactly the same as products in brochures or on our web sites.

We give a 1 year warranty against construction and material flaws for your bedside table. Naturally, any miss handling or inappropriate use of the product will invalidate the warranty. The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 10 or more bedside tables, and to Professional designers and decorators. The discount will automatically show on your quote request.

Prices include shipping to your nearest main port. Should you require shipment ‘Door to Door’ or to an isolated port we may need to update your quote depending on the extra cost. The price excludes fees at the port of entry (customs clearance, tax such as VAT etc).
