Kgalagadi Tripod Table

From: R16,254.00

The Kgalagadi Tripod Table is rugged, well built table named after the tough and uncompromising Kgalagadi region of the Kalahari desert. Suitable as an indoor or outdoor table. The legs are easily removed and folded flat for shipping or storage. Built from solid African hardwood, it has a beautiful colour and grain and will last for generations if looked after.

For more information on this fine table please see Product details below.

Design

Inspiration for the Kgalagadi Tripod Table came from the small tripod side tables and lamp tables we have made at The African Touch from time to time. It is an elegant yet simple design which allows for unrestricted leg room for those seated around it. In addition the three legs are held together with our unique star bolt with polished brass nuts that allows the legs to be removed and swung into a flat ‘bundle’ for easy transport with the top.

The top is slatted which makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. The gaps between the timbers allow precipitation to flow off the table top if left out in rain or snow.

Materials used

We utilise two of the finest woods in the world – Zambezi Teak and African Mahogany. Zambezi Teak, formerly known as Rhodesian Teak, is exceptionally hard and durable. It is ideal for outdoor tables in harsh conditions. If your table is to be used outdoors we recommend an oil finish. For more information on our finishes please see our article on African Touch finishes.

Uses

The Kagalagadi Tripod Table is ideal for use as a versatile indoor or outdoor dining table for safari lodges and hotels. It makes a really fine and social garden table as well. The Standard Director’s Chair is ideal to use with the Kagalagadi Tripod Table.

Your oiled Kgalagadi Tripod Table receives two applications of The African Touch Furniture Oil prior to delivery. Our outlets carry stock, should you require it. We recommend you re-apply when the finish looks faded or dry. The recommended application procedure is as follows:

  • Wipe surface down with a clean cotton cloth lightly moistened with mineral turpentine. (Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry and clean before proceeding with the next step)
  • Use a clean cotton cloth or soft bristled brush dipped in the oil and apply in light, short strokes, ensuring thorough and even distribution of the oil.
  • Leave the oil on the furniture for at least 1 to 2 hours (but not more than 24 hours), to allow absorption into the wood.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours.

If a wet glass or similar is left on the surface it may leave a watermark. In this case please wipe the water off as soon as possible, and if necessary apply some more Satinwood 28 base. If the mark is still slightly visible you can rub with a little baking soda mixed with an equal part of water, wipe off with a damp cloth and re-apply the oil.

At The African Touch we build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness.

Solid wood naturally oxidises and darkens with age. Zambezi teak in particular will change from a beautiful light honey brown to a darker rich red brown on exposure to light. This is a natural process so the product you receive will certainly change colour with time and may not look exactly the same as products in brochures or on our web sites.

We give a 15 year warranty against construction flaws. Naturally, any miss handling or inappropriate use of the product will invalidate the warranty. The warranty does not apply to components supplied by The African Touch that are fitted into or on components from another supplier, the client or to a building. The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.
