Safari High Back Chair

From: R4,536.00

The High Back hardwood chair is one of our original designs, with those hand built twenty-five years ago still giving sterling service. They are ruggedly constructed with great care and attention to producing perfect mortice and tennon joints that will ensure the integrity of the chair for generations to come.

The curved, angled, backrest make this a very comfortable chair, ideally suited to more formal settings. The chair is designed to have a solid wood seat (our standard) or upholstered leather seat.

Leather upholstered seats can be quoted separately depending on the leather required.

The design

The High Back hardwood chair is one of our original designs, with those hand built twenty-five years ago still giving sterling service. The curved, angled, backrest make this a very comfortable chair, ideally suited to more formal settings. The chair is designed to have a solid wood seat (our standard) or genuine bovine leather upholstered seat (all African Touch chairs look stunning with upholstered leather seats).

Materials used

The high back hardwood chair can be built from Zambezi Teak (Rhodesian Teak) or African Mahogany.  Both an oil and a lacquer finish are available, but we only recommend the lacquer for interior use.

Where the High Back Chair is used.

This chair is often bought with our Shangani Table  or Restaurant Table and is excellent as an upmarket restaurant chair. It has been used in camps and lodges all over southern Africa. I visited a lodge in 2018 that had chairs bought in 1993, and they were still in great condition!

Leather covers.

To protect and nourish your leather covers, we recommend you use Hide Food from Stapol. We carry stocks of Hide Food in our outlets should you require it.

Firstly clean the leather with a damp cloth. Hide Food should always be applied using a lint free cloth, a natural or synthetic sponge using an even circular motion. Drying is temperature related but the cream generally dries in a couple of minutes after which it can be buffed with a polish brush or soft cloth. It will renovate and provide an elegant lustre. It also provides a good degree of water resistance.

Timber Frame

To protect your lacquered timber frame place furniture away from direct sunlight (this will also protect the leather). Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month. Apply sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

We cannot offer a warrantee on chairs except for defects in material and workmanship that affect the integrity of the chair under normal use and weight limits. The reason for this is that chairs can be subject to huge stresses (such as when a heavy person rocks back on the back legs) that are impossible to compensate for in the construction of the chair without compromising on the design appeal.

We build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 10 or more high back chairs, and to Professional designers and decorators. The discount will automatically show on your quote request.

Prices include shipping to your nearest main port. Should you require shipment ‘Door to Door’ or to an isolated port we may need to update your quote depending on the extra cost. The price excludes fees at the port of entry (customs clearance, tax such as VAT etc).
