Okavango Leather Chair

From: R4,788.00

The Okavango Leather Chair and Carver (with armrests)) are a stylish, comfortable combination of superb African hardwood and thick, rugged pure veg tanned bovine harness leather, hand stitched and riveted. Also available in super comfortable imported canvas designed for 4×4 SUV seat covers.

The leather we use is 100% natural bovine leather and may have blemishes from the original hide. These blemishes are not covered up in the tanning process and only add character to the finished product.

The Okavango Chair adds style and design interest to your Boardroom, Dining Room or Office. It is available in a knock down version for easy cost effective international shipping.

The Design

Richard Lowe designed the Okavango Leather Chair and Carver to go with the Baobab Boardroom Table and the the Campaign Officer’s Desk

We needed a chair and carver that were comfortable and easy to sit at while working for long hours or attending boardroom discussions. I wanted a boardroom leather chair that provided back support when sitting upright to work. Inspiration came from The Spanish Chair, whose lines and comfortable seat I love. After several prototypes were built and tested, we finally found the right design for our boardroom leather chair.

The Name

There is a very special place in North Western Botswana that we wanted to honour with this special boardroom leather chair. The Okavango. The name brings visions of great vistas and graceful African animals. We hope our Okavango Leather Chair and Carver do justice to this wonderful Landscape.

The Material

Built from superb African hardwood, Zambezi Teak, and thick, rugged pure veg tanned bovine harness leather, hand stitched and riveted. A combination that exudes luxurious opulence and design. Only the very best heartwood of the Zambezi teak is selected for use in this chair. The mortice and tenon joints that hold the chair together are carefully and accurately cut as the integrity of the chair depends on these. Covers are also available in ultra comfortable, UV stabilised water repellent Auto canvas, developed for the off-road 4×4 vehicle market.

Uses of the Okavango chairs.

Ideal as boardroom chairs, dining chairs or office chairs.

1. Zambezi Teak, 2. African Mahogany

Leather covers.

To protect and nourish your leather covers, we carry The African Touch Leather Food stocks in our outlets.

Firstly clean the leather with a damp cloth. Leather Food should always be applied using a lint free cloth, a natural or synthetic sponge using an even circular motion. Drying is temperature related but the cream generally dries in a couple of minutes after which it can be buffed with a polish brush or soft cloth. It will renovate and provide an elegant lustre. It also provides a good degree of water resistance.

Timber Frame

To protect your lacquered timber frame place furniture away from direct sunlight (this will also protect the leather). Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month. Apply sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

We cannot offer a warrantee on chairs except for defects in material and workmanship that affect the integrity of the chair under normal use and weight limits. The reason for this is that chairs can be subject to huge stresses (such as when a heavy person rocks back on the back legs) that are impossible to compensate for in the construction of the chair without compromising on the design appeal.

We build with timber harvested from natural forests. The charm of this material is that no two pieces are exactly the same in colour, character or grain, and they will contain natural imperfections such as knots, stress cracks and so on that enhance their authenticity and attractiveness. As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.

The African Touch will not in any circumstances be liable for any claim which falls outside the scope of our warranty or for any consequential damages whatsoever.

We offer 10% discount for orders of 10 or more Okavango Chairs, and to Professional designers and decorators. The discount will automatically show on your quote request.

We have developed a knock down version of the Okavango Leather Chairs and Carver that is ideal for shipping. This makes them ideal companions with our large tables or desks if you wish to ship overseas. Please Contact us for more information on shipping options.
