The Design and Construction

The Selous Teak Sideboard, with three drawers and three cupboards, provides loads of storage space. It is a superbly built buffet cabinet from the finest solid African hardwood, Zambezi Teak (formerly referred to as Rhodesian Teak) throughout its construction. Drawer boxes, the buffet cabinet back are all solid hardwood. Only the finest joinery is used, including through dovetail and sliding dovetail joints. This is cabinet making at its finest and only the best of our cabinet makers, all women, work on the Selous Sideboard.

The Material and fittings used.

The handles used are specially commissioned solid brass drop handles, adding real class to the piece. In line with our Campaign furniture brand they are designed to replicate the drop handles used in campaign cabinetry in the eighteenth century. The drawer slides are stainless steel roller bearing slides of the finest quality imported from Denmark. They give a smooth ride to even loaded drawers.

The timber used is Zambezi Teak, an exceptionally fine hardwood though difficult to work because of it’s great density. Other hardwoods may be quoted on request.

Where is the Selous Teak Sideboard used?

To protect your lacquered finish place the sideboard away from direct sunlight. Apply a good furniture wax or polish, initially twice a month, thereafter once a month. Apply sufficient to thinly cover the surface. As it dries (becomes dull) buff with a clean cloth until a beautiful sheen is achieved. Between waxings, keep the finish clean with a soft cloth or duster, and buff without wax.

As a result no 2 pieces will ever be identical and products may have natural imperfections. However, these will never be allowed to compromise the quality of construction of your piece.
